A Quick Tip: How To Get Them To Follow You On Twitter

In Social Media on March 3, 2009 at 7:49 pm

I am not a big twitter guru nor do I have many followers at my main twitter account. I am still trying to get my head aroung this whole concept and am taking it easy.

However, I did notice an interesting trend that you can use to get others to follow you or follow you back (it works better if you are already following them).

It all has to do with the current hot subject of retweeting. Many measure their success on twitter by the number of time their tweets have been retweeted.

What is a retweet? A retweet just means that you post a tweet you saw and liked and appened RT or rt in front of the original tweet (most client software makes this very easy to do). Its similar to you forwarding an email to others in your address book.

Now for the tip:

Many of the major tweeters constantly monitor their retweets. What I found out, is that a lot of times they will see your retweet of their original post and than follow you. It seems you get their attention by retweeting.

What is your own experience?
